We acknowledge and understand the integral role of parents and carers as a child’s first educators.
We recognise the importance of a well-developed, informed and active partnership between school and home and will work to establish and enhance successful home-school relationships.
From Reception onwards, children take home a Collins Big Cat Phonics book (which directly align with our Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised phonics programme) and at least one other quality text to share with parents and carers and to promote children’s enjoyment of books and reading.
All children are provided with a Carlisle Infant School Reading Diary at the beginning of the school year. Parents are encouraged to write a comment on their child’s reading at home and class teachers check and respond in the diaries weekly to promote communication with parents about their child’s progress in reading.
Although weekly homework is not set routinely by class teachers, resources such as phonics flashcards, spelling sheets, reading comprehension tasks and handouts explaining current maths strategies are sometimes sent home to encourage good progress in reading, writing and maths.
