Safeguarding is everybody’s responsibility
The Carlisle and Hampton Hill Federation is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and adults at our school.
We expect all staff and volunteers to share in our commitment to keeping children safe and observe the wide range of safeguarding measures we have in place. All staff and regular volunteers have DBS checks and visitors are signposted to the designated safeguarding leads, through our safeguarding notices displayed around our school.

The Carlisle and Hampton Hill Federation Safeguarding Statement
In order to keep our children safe at school we,
• ensure that all our staff – through their induction and on-going training - have a clear understanding of their responsibilities towards our children’s safeguarding.
• make sure that we have a range of clear and up to date policies and procedures in place to ensure the safety and protection of our pupils in all aspects of school life.
• ensure that we teach our pupils how to keep themselves healthy and safe – in and out of school including keeping safe on-line.
• ensure that we audit our safeguarding practices regularly so we remain vigilant.
• carry out rigorous checks during the recruitment process where application forms are carefully scrutinised, and any education or employment gaps are queried references and all necessary DBS checks are undertaken as a matter of course and we keep an up to date single central record on all of our employees. The Federation Headteacher, Heads of Schools, Federation Business Manager and some members of the Governing Body are trained in ‘Safer Recruitment’.
• have an effective induction process, which includes safeguard training, for our volunteers. Please see the volunteer’s page for more details. Volunteers and visitors are not left unsupervised with any children at any time unless they are regular volunteers who have completed a DBS check.
• have governors responsible for safeguarding, Deb Long and Barbara Clifford, who monitor the rigour and effectiveness of our safeguarding policies and procedures termly.
• have safe computer access, with secure filtering and we train children and staff in e-safety.
• provide termly safeguarding newsletters to families to update them on important issues related to safeguarding and current, effective practice

Early Help
If you are a parent or carer and would like help for your child or your family, please contact the school and we can decide with you on the support needed.
In Richmond upon Thames, Protection and Early Help services are provided by Achieving for Children (AfC), the Local Authority's Children's Services Provider. Our staff are trained to look for signs that children may need help and can refer to The Early Help Assessment which is an early assessment and planning tool to facilitate coordinated multi-agency support.
It enables professionals to efficiently identify the emerging needs of children and young people at risk of poor outcomes; it reduces duplication of assessment and improves involvement between agencies.
Private Fostering
Looking after someone else’s child
Private Fostering is when a child, under the age of 16 years (under 18 if they are disabled) is cared for by someone who is not their parent or a close relative, for 28 days or more.
Children under 16 who spend more than 2 weeks in residence during school holiday time in school are now seen as privately fostered; or more than 2 weeks in hospital.
Close relatives are defined as step-parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, uncles or aunts. To be private fostering, the arrangement has not been made by the local authority, and the child or young person is not being looked after by an approved foster carer.
To find out more about private fostering follow the link below:
If you are aware of a child being privately fostered, please inform the child’s school as a matter of urgency.
