EAL

EAL Support

There are currently 30+ languages spoken at HHJS. Our community includes many families with a home language other than English.

The priority for our EAL speakers is to ensure pupils access the curriculum and continue to make progress alongside their peers. We provide targeted intervention where appropriate using a variety of resources including teaching and learning materials aimed at supporting pupils’ language development.

Where necessary we will liaise with outside agencies for additional pupil assessment and support. We actively promote language awareness with whole school language initiatives celebrating the variety of languages spoken in school and in the wider community.

Please contact the school office, in the first instance, to speak with our EAL lead, Mrs Bandealy.
